Clovelly
Picture postcard fishing village
The impossible pretty village of Clovelly seems to cascade down the north Devon cliffs. The cobbled streets here are so steep they’re off limits to cars – locals bring in their shopping on home-made sledges.
The village is home to shops, museums, a tiny harbour and plenty of place to eat and drink.
Visitor Centre
Clovelly is privately owned and admission is charged at a big visitor centre at the top of the hill. From there paths lead down to the much more picturesque village itself.
Although Clovelly is touristy there are no holiday homes – the vast majority of the 83 houses are lived in all the time.
Sights
The Fisherman’s Cottage Museum cleverly recreates how local fishermen lived in the 1930s.
