Fowey & Polruan
Two bewitching river ports
Fowey is one of those dreamy Cornish fishing ports that reels you in and makes you want to stay. Its ancient cottages line the western banks of the River Fowey; overlooking the even prettier village of Polruan on the other side.
One top tip: despite the spelling, if you want to sound like a local – pronounce the town “Foy”.
Ferries & Boat Trips
As pretty as Fowey is from land, you’ll no doubt want to see it from the water. The Polruan Ferry shuttles regularly across the river to the picturesque village on the east bank. Another ferry runs to the picturesque port of Mevagissey.
On the 45 minute cruise run by Fowey River Trips (adult/child £9/5), you’ll head up stream past Daphne Du Maurier’s iconic Ferryside house to the China clay docks, then downriver past Readymoney Cove for close up views of Polruan before heading back.
