Whitsand Bay

Vast beaches on a unspoilt shore

SouthWestOct18_41

Stretching from Rame Head in the east to delightfully named Portwrinkle in the west Whitsand Bay lies at the heart of Cornwall’s ‘forgotten corner’.

Some four miles of the bay is framed by the cliff-edge Military Road creating a drive with spectacular views. Parking places and lay-bys dot this stretch, some with paths leading down to beaches below.

At low tide vast stretches of sand emerge, opening up long sandy strolls. Be aware incoming tides can cut people off and the currents can be strong. Sticking to lifeguarded beaches such as the ones at Tregonhawke and Freathy is wise.

You can pick up the Military Road three miles west of Kingsand and Cawsand. Some of our circular walks from Kingsand & Cawsand (2.8–5.5 miles) also take in the eastern edge Whitsand Bay.
