St Mary's
Isles of Scilly capital
Although the largest of the islands, St Mary’s still only covers 6 square miles. It’s the archipelago’s transport, tourism and retail hub. It also has a vineyard, fine sandy beaches and is the base for many outdoor activity companies.
Settlements
The main settlement, picturesque Hugh Town, is where the ferry from the mainland docks and where passenger ferries for the off islands depart. It’s home to a good range of shops, galleries, cafes, restaurants and pubs.
It also has a string of beautiful beaches, including family-favourite Porthcressa, quay-view Town Beach and Porthmellon, popular with SUPers and swimmers.
