Molières
An unfinished bastide
Originally an English Bastide founded in 1284 Molières was never finished. As a result it suffered badly during the Hundred Years’ War and the Wars of Religion.
Despite the fact that much of which you take for granted in other bastides is missing e.g. the market hall, or incomplete, e.g. the castle, this should not detract from what is a very pleasant small town deep in the Purple Périgord. What’s more is that it is close enough to other bastides such as Lalinde and Beaumont-du-Périgord to make a pleasant afternoon’s sightseeing.
Don’t forget to see the 13th Century church and the House of Walnuts – a local speciality!
