Art & Culture

St.Crépin-et-Carlucet

Like just about everywhere in France, Art and Culture abound and you don't need to travel far to enjoy it. First and foremost Dordogne is world famous for its unique cave paintings, copies of which can be found at Lascaux near Montignac.

Also intriguing is the mysterious Lanterne des Morts at Sarlat.

Meanwhile there’s much Gothic and Romanesque architecture to appreciate in many regional churches and castles. These include St-Sacerdos at Sarlat and the Château de Castelnaud above the River Dordogne.

Many houses built in the Périgordian or Quercynoise style grace the local villages like St-Geniès and St-Céré respectively. And lovers of vernacular architecture should also explore the region’s Plus Beaux Villages, villages marketed for their historic heritage and look out for Lauzes, stone-roofs to appreciate.
