Tulle

Lacy Town on the Corrèze river

Tulle & River Corrèze

Although not the largest town in the Corrèze, Tulle is the administrative centre or prefecture of the département and has a long troubled history. It stretches along the banks of the Corrèze river and is famous throughout the world for its very fine lace or netting.

During the Hundred Years War Tulle was taken by the English twice and in 1585 it was sacked by the viscount of Turenne. Towards the end of WWII it was liberated by the Résistance only to be retaken by the Germans who took severe measures against the citizens.

Maison de Loyac, Tulle

Tulle has a fine church dating back to the 12th Century but the most interesting structure in the city is the Maison de Loyac built in the French renaissance style.
