Aldeburgh

Aldeburgh Suffolk

Aldeburgh is a very traditional seaside resort. Forget any thoughts of rollercoasters and fairgrounds - this is definitely a resort for people who want to relax on the beach, buy fish from local fishermen, enjoy local food in the shops.

The style of the Georgian high street has hardly changed for over a century. It is only a short walk between the town centre and the mainly shingle beach. The White Lion Hotel directly fronts the beach.

The massive stainless steel, Scallop Shell sculpture by Maggie Hambling is a popular subject for photographs, and is a tribute to twentieth century composer Benjamin Brittain who spent much of his life in Aldeburgh.

Nearby attractions Snape Maltings, a music and drama venue, Leiston Long Shop Steam museum, Sizewell B Visitor Centre, and the Meare at Thorpeness.
