The East of England, sometimes called East Anglia, is one of the biggest English regions, and includes one of the longest coastlines stretching from Kings Lynn down to the Thames.
Much of the area is rural and is a great outdoor destination with activities suitable for all ages. This is an area where history and heritage are very evident, with great cathedrals and castles, powerful leaders like the Iceni warrior queen Boudicca leading a revolt against the Romans, and kings such as Edmund, saint and martyr or the Anglo-Saxon king buried at Sutton Hoo.
Explore cities and towns like Cambridge with its reknowned university, Norwich, St Albans, racing heritage at Newmarket, the story of gunpowder at the Royal Gunpowder Mills of Waltham Abbey and coastal resorts like Great Yarmouth, and Southend-on-Sea.
Distances from London vary from just 25 miles to St Albans to 137 miles to Great Yarmouth. Whatever the destination, it is easily accessible by public Transport or by car.
