Felixstowe
Attractive seaside resort
Although better known as a massive container port, Felixstowe is also a busy seaside resort with colourful beach huts and over four miles of sand and shingle beaches.
The town’s Edwardian heritage is clearly seen along the sea front, with its expansive lawns, houses and hotels.
The seafront gardens are one of its most popular features. Stretching for almost a mile, the gardens were planted over 100 years ago on the cliffs between the town centre and the beach, and have recently been restored.
Among the entertainments on offer is a long pier with traditional slot machines, a fun fair, ten pin bowling and adventure golf.
Nearby attractions include riverside walks beside the River Debden, the Landguard Nature Reserve, and the eighteenth century Landguard Fort (English Heritage). Special events and exhibitions are often held at the Fort.
Located about 90 miles north east of London, there are connecting trains Felixstowe and Ipswich which is on the mainline route to Liverpool Street.
The A14 leads directly to Felixstowe.
Numerous car parks close to the sea front.
