Hogmanay
Britain's biggest New Year's party (28 Dec–2 Jan)

In Britain, Edinburgh celebrates the Scottish New Year, or Hogmanay, with unrivalled gusto.
The full program involves torch-lit processions, a dip in the Firth of Forth (the freezing cold estuary beside the city) on New Year's day, and a winter market and fair throughout the period.
But the main event is the street party on Princes Street which packs with crowds even though numbers are limited by the necessity of having a ticket (available from the end of September). It's centrepiece is a concert in its Gardens - usually a fairly high-profile band - followed by a spectacular firework display from the castle.
