Summer: June, July & August

Annual Meadows BBQ, Edinburgh, July 2014

Summer in Edinburgh means daytime temps that average 18ºC/64ºF. But before you cast aside all sensible clothing, be advised that around 20 days each month will see rain too (though probably just light drizzle).

All the same this is the height of the picnic, barbecue and beach season, with The Meadows and Portobello Beach suitably mobbed at peak times.

In addition to the events below, there's also Gardening Scotland (early-Jun), a large gardening show.

Edinburgh Fringe Festival

World's largest arts festival (Aug)

Edinburgh Int'l Children's Festival

Edinburgh International Festival

Edinburgh International Film Festival

Edinburgh Int'l Jazz & Blues Festival

A great parade kicks off 10-days of live music (mid-Jul)

Edinburgh Tattoo

Highly-charged military marching in a stirring setting (Aug)

Royal Highland Show

Scotland's premier agricultural show (mid-Jun)
