Fingal

Floating luxury (l,d; £££)

Fingal

Art Deco ocean liner elegance meets boutique hotel in this Scottish-built 1960s former lighthouse supply vessel.

Now permanently berthed in the Port of Leith (opposite a tram stop – for a quick link to Edinburgh’s city centre), it’s winner of the prestigious Tripadvisor “Best of the Best” award, based on public ratings.

So you can be confident its 22 luxury cabins are up to scratch, and that its restaurant is first class too (Britain’s AA agrees, giving it two Rosettes). The latter’s open to non-residents for decadent afternoon teas, cocktails and gourmet dinners
