Hotel Viru
Former elite tourist & KGB lair
A huge grey slab built in the 1970s for holidaying Finns, the Hotel Viru (now the Sokos Hotel Viru) long enjoyed the reputation of being Westernized hotel in the USSR – and was the honeymoon venue of choice for any Soviet couple who could afford it.
Guests were bugged and spied on by the KGB. The Hotel Viru KGB Museum offers a revealing glimpse of their activities.
