Oandu

Woodland trails

Oandu Old-Growth Forest Nature Trail

Just inland from the coastal village of Altja, Oandu is a typical forest settlement, a handful of scattered farmsteads squeezed by dark woods.

Oandu Forest Nature Trail

It is the starting point of two popular short hikes, beginning with the Oandu Forest Nature Trail (Oandu loodusmetsa rada), a circular, 4.7km-long path designed to offer a taste of the park’s varied forest landscape. It leads through evergreen and deciduous trees, their dark-green canopy shading a woodland floor covered in mosses and ferns. Scarred tree-trunks bear witness to the activities of itchy-scratchy moose and bark-nibbling bears.

Oandu Beaver Trail

Stepping out into more forest 1km south of the village, the Oandu Beaver Trail (Koprarada) is a 1.7km-long hiking circuit that delves deep into the woods, passing several beaver dams. You’ll also see tree trunks bearing fresh gnaw marks.
