Trains

20.09.14 Tallinn 1321

Train routes in Estonia are much more limited than bus lines: Narva, Tartu, Rakvere and Viljandi are the main destinations you can get to from Tallinn by rail. However train travel is both comfortable and slightly faster than the bus.

An ambitious trans-Baltic train line connecting Tallinn with Riga and Vilnius is currently under construction. At the time of writing however, there are no direct train routes between these capitals.

Domestic services are operated by Elron, whose website provides timetable info and bookings.

Tallinn station

Tallinn’s train station, known as “Baltic Station” or “Balti jaam”, is immediately north of the Old Town. Trains serve a number of suburban stations as well as Tartu, Narva, Rakvere and Viljandi. There’s a café, supermarket and pharmacy on site. Check the Elron website for timetables and tickets.
