Ferries

In Virtsu, getting the ferry to Saaremaa

Roll-on-roll-off ferries connect the Estonian mainland with the islands of Vormsi, Hiiumaa, Muhu and Saaremaa. There are passenger-only ferries to Kihnu.

Prices are very reasonable.A passenger ticket from the mainland to Hiiumaa weighs in at around €5; expect to pay €15 extra for a car, €6 for a motorbike. If you are travelling by bus, the price of the ferry crossing will be included in your bus ticket.

For timetables, ticket prices and advance bookings check the websites of the two main ferry companies Praamid (serving Hiiumaa, Muhu and Saaremaa) and Veeteed (serving Vormsi and Kihnu, and operating a summer-only route from Hiiumaa to Saaremaa).

Ferry port

Tallinn’s passenger port (Reisisadaam) is a fifteen-minute walk northeast of the Old Town at the end of Sadama. Helsinki is the main destination with several departures a day.
