Tallinn Transport
Much of central Tallinn is enjoyably walkable and you may not need public transport at all until you start exploring suburban locations such as Pirita and The Estonian Open-Air Museum.
Local Transport
Tram routes augmented by bus and trolleybus lines comprehensively cover the city. Route maps are frequently displayed at tram and bus stops.
The basic “QR” ticket, which lasts for one hour regardless of changes, costs €1.50 and can be bought from machines inside the vehicles providing you have a contactless bank card.
If you’re planning on using public transport more than once or twice, its worth investing in a Smartcard (ühiskaart; deposit €2) which you can then top up in increments of €4.50 (valid for 24hr), €7.50 (72hr), €9 (5 days) or €30 (30 days). These cards can be obtained from the Tourist Information Centre and from key transport hubs such as the airport, bus station, train station and ferry terminal.
Holders of the Tallinn Card get free use of public transport for the duration of the validity of the card.
