Côte de Granit Rose
Brittany’s Famous Pink Granite Coast
The famous Côte de Granit Rose stretches from Louannec near Perros-Guirec to beyond Plestin-les-Grèves in the Côtes-d’Armor on the North West coast of Brittany.
This unusual and stunningly beautiful coastline is significant because this type of granite rock is very unusual and found in only a couple of places - the Bavella range of mountains in Corse de Sud and in Southern China. The Esterel Mountains on the Côte d’Azur don’t really count as their pink/red colour is due porphyry - similar to granite but not the same.
The Côte de Granit Rose can be followed by taking the D788 Coast Road from Perros to via Trégastal down to Trébuerden or by using the GR34 (see below)
Beyond Trébuerden, the coast has to be accessed from Lannion a little inland, via the same road although in the authors view the best bits are in the first section!
Note: For serious walkers the GR34 Sentier des Douaniers (Customs Trail) follows the Coast on its route from Mont St Michel to St-Nazaire.
