Troyes
The City with the ‘Bouchon’ shaped Centre
The charming old city of Troyes is located on the River Seine in the south west corner of the Grand Est Région and boasts a Medieval centre contained within a so called ‘Bouchon’ complete with half-timbered houses, cobbled streets, several Gothic churches and the stunning Cathédrale of St-Pierre and St-Paul with it’s amazingly beautiful stained glass windows.
Indeed the cobbled alleyways lead to the delightful main square Place Maréchal du Foch where you can relax in one of the many cafes or restaurants and perhaps contemplate the Bouchon claim with a glass of bubby! It relates to the shape of the ramparts which were laid down well before Champagne was invented and is not therefore some adman’s wild imaginings!
