Zappion Gardens
The National Gardens of Athens
Also known as the National Gardens of Athens - Zappion Gardens is so called because of the Neoclassical ‘Zappion’ building in the heart of the Gardens that hosts conferences and trade shows.
It’s a public park of 38 acres right next to Syntagma Square and was commissioned by Queen Amalia to be built–completed in 1840 and opened to the public in 1920.
It’s a cool oasis and respite from the concrete jungle of Athens for tourists and Athenians alike, especially at weekends. There’s a duck pond with several species of duck, a small zoo and many botanical plants to be seen. You’ll also find a botanical museum and small children’s library hidden amongst the many pathways.
Popular for jogging or just taking a stroll with the family.
Take a break in Aegli Cafe where you can have lunch or just relax with a frappe coffee.
