Packing Guide
What to pack for your Greek holiday
Many people head to the Greek islands in the height of summer, when temperatures can hit up to 33 C (91 F) or, in recent years, even as high as 41 C (106 F).
Summer
Travel shorts are a must–especially ones that offer UVA/B protection. Some offer great hidden pockets–a must for hiding your credit cards or valuables.
Long tunics are a must for women, especially when entering churches as arms must be covered. They’re also great for those light breezy evenings on the islands.
I like to recommend Teva flip flops as they have a strong sole, making walking on those Greek cobbled lanes easier on the feet, as well as good for the beach.
Suntan cream should be no lower than Factor 30–even if you feel you’re used to the sun, but especially if you have fair skin. Even if it doesn’t feel particularly hot, it’s easy to get badly burned.
Autumn
September/October time, even up to November, can be the best time of year to visit, with temperatures ranging from a pleasant 21 C (70 F) up to around 29 C 84 F in September.
Jeans aren’t really a good idea, so think about light chinos or loose trousers.
With the evenings getting a little chillier, a light cardigan and/or pullover is a good idea.
General
Irrespective of season, there are a few essentials to consider:
- Mosquito cream
- Shawl or long sleeved cover or even sarong for visiting churches
- Correct adaptor plug. Greece works on a two pin adaptor style.
