Shops & Shopping
Shopping is huge in Hong Kong. In fact, it sometimes seems like the entire city is one huge store. Probably part of the reason is that Hong Kong is a duty free port, meaning imported goods are not taxed.
There are many shopping destinations. Tsim Sha Tsui has the greatest concentration of stores, especially on the 4km stretch of Nathan Road and its side streets. Central offers upscale shopping, with many designer boutiques, the ifc mall and chic Shanghai Tang, but it also has market streets Li Yuen Street East & West with stalls selling souvenirs and clothing. Causeway Bay caters mostly to locals with its many shops and Times Square Mall specializing in clothing, electronics and housewares.
There are also many markets, such as Stanley Market on the south end of Hong Kong Island and Kowloon's Temple Street Night Market.
If you’re shopping, be aware that all retail businesses in Hong Kong are required to charge at least HK$0.50 for a plastic bag, so do your part to save the environment by bringing your own.
