Hong Kong Heritage Museum

Lifestyles & Culture in the New Territories

It’s a train ride up to the The New Territories (maybe you’re combining it with a visit to the nearby Che Kung Temple or the Monastery of 10,000 Buddhas), but the Hong Kong Heritage Museum is one of Hong Kong’s best and shouldn’t be missed if you are interested in history, culture, and how people used to live in centuries past.

The museum is divided into several exhibition halls. My favorite is the New Territories Heritage Hall, which covers 6,000 years of area history, including customs and lifestyles of early fisherfolk and settlers, British occupation, and Sha Tin’s astounding transformation from a small village just a half century ago to a huge “city” of more than 750,000 people.
