Goods of Desire
Slightly cheeky shop with a playful Hong Kong slant
Any shop I can walk into and immediately see underwear I simply HAD to buy my then teenage-aged son is a winner in my book. Of course, its nickname, “G.O.D.,” which sounds like the Cantonese for “to live better” when spoken out loud, is a giveaway this is no ordinary souvenir store.
Stocked with clothing, furniture, housewares and gifts, most of them with some reference to Hong Kong, Goods of Desire is the place to go if you’re looking for pillows in the shape of a panda head, bed linens imprinted with a black and white photo of Yau Ma Tei tenements, purses emblazed with Cheung Chau icons, tattoo “sleeves” that you can wear on your arm, and much more. There are branches (including those at Stanley Plaza in Stanley, PMQ in Central, and 9 Sharp Street East in Causeway Bay), but the Hollywood Road location is the flagship store.
