Swimming & Beaches
Hong Kong provides lots of opportunities for diving in and getting cooled off, especially during the hot and humid summer months. Swimming in Hong Kong is easiest, of course, at the many hotel swimming pools, some of which are heated and are open year-round.
Public Pools
There are also 40-some public swimming pools, many of them located in city parks. Most convenient are those in Kowloon Park, with both indoor and outdoor pools, and Victoria Park with very nice indoor pools. Unless you like togetherness, avoid weekends.
Public Beaches
If chlorine is not your idea of a good swim, there are also about 40 free public beaches in Hong Kong, not surprising given its islands and long coastlines. Most of them are have lifeguards on duty April through October and offer changing rooms and snack bars. Among these, most popular are those on Hong Kong Island, including Big Wave Bay, Shek O, Stanley, Deep Water Bay, South Beach and Repulse Bay. Or, make a day trip to those farther afield, including the New Territories or one of the outlying islands.
