Dr. Sun Yat-sen Museum

A revered revolutionary

You can’t travel in Hong Kong or China long without coming across references and historic sites linked to Dr. Sun Yat-sen (1866-1925). Come to the Dr. Sun Yat-sen Museum to learn why he’s revered as a leader of the Chinese revolution, which brought down the 267-year-rule of the corrupt Qing Dynasty and ended centuries of imperial rule.

Dr. Sun Yat-sen spent his formative years in Hong Kong, attending secondary and university schools and forming opinions and a vision that would guide him through life.

The museum, ensconced in a striking former mansion built in 1914 for a local businessman, contains photographs of the revolutionary and his family and does a good job describing Hong Kong during Sun Yat-sen’s time. Don’t miss the 11-minute film about his life, and for even more immersion, invest HK$10 extra for the 90-minute audio guide. Or, come for the free hour-long guided tour offered every Saturday in English at 3:30pm.
