Mills

Stockdale Mill, Roann, Indiana

Mills showcase Indiana’s agricultural past. On this journey, a good place to start is Enlow’s Mill in Jasper where Tom Lincoln and his son, Abe, made the 17 mile journey—one that took all day— from their home in Spencer County to have their corn and wheat be ground. It was a time, fortunately, also for gossiping with other farmers and passing around a jug of corn liquor.

We’re betting the tales got even wilder as the day grew long.

Historic Mills Near Covered Bridges

Mills such as those in Bridgeton and Mansfield in Parke County and the three-story 1845 Adams Mill on Wildcat Creek near Lafayette, just a stone’s throw from Adams Covered Bridge, are a two-fer for those who love historic rural architecture. Other such places include the charming village of Roann, preservationists have refurbished both the wooden covered bridge that spans the Eel River but also the three-story Stockdale Mill.
