Mansfield
A covered bridge & historic mill
The three and one half story Mansfield Roller Mill State Historic Site that stands on a rise above the Big Raccoon Creek was built in 1819.
The creek meanders under the Mansfield Covered Bridge that dates back to 1867 and spills down in a small drop near the large mill wheel. Like Bridgeton Mill in nearby Bridgeton, this mill sells freshly ground cornmeal, popcorn meal and whole wheat flours as well as pancake mixes and fish batter.
During festivals – of which there are many including ones celebrating morels, cornbread and, of course, the Parke County Covered Bridge Festival, the village stores open their doors, selling their wares and the mill begins to grind again. But even when all is closed, this is a charming spot to have a picnic and enjoy the rural beauty. Also on hand are the makers of Audrey's Pumpkin and Gourmet Cake Rolls, a family business started in 1995.
