The marvelous 1911 DeKalb Courthouse, centered on a traditional Indiana square in historic downtown Auburn, is known for its dome – a kaleidoscope of colors made of Florentine glass highlighted by sun shining through the skylight during the day and lights at night.
A major player in the culinary scene, DeKalb, part of the Indiana Foodways Alliance and is renowned for both its traditional restaurants some of which, like Cricket's Tavern first started serving up food in 1890 to a selection of ethnic cuisine including Sandra D's Italian Garden.
DeKalb also offers a myriad of museums. There are seven right now with several more being built. A must to visit is the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Museum, housed in the company's original Art Deco building which remains stunningly true to its 1930s design.
Even those who aren't serious auto aficionados will love wandering through the grand building accented with such architectural details as a terrazzo floor in a three color geometric triangular pattern, light fixtures with opalescent glass, wall sconces and a grand center staircase leading to the mezzanine.
