Cambridge City
Antiques, art, apples & history
Considered the hub of the Antique Capital of Indiana, Cambridge City, located on the nation's first east National Road, a plethora of shops for antiquers.
Back in the early to mid 1900s, Cambridge City was also famed for the pottery created by the Overbeck Sisters, four sisters known for their unique work; they developed marvelous glazes whose formulas disappeared after the last sister died. Their work can be seen at Overbeck Pottery located in the town’s library.
There are options for history buffs as well. Since 1841, the Huddleston Farmhouse Museum has been a beacon for travelers on a rise above the old highway just outside of Cambridge City. Long owned by the Huddleston Family, it was an inn for travelers on the National Highway and is now open for tours.
And be sure to check out such antique stores as The Log House Antiques and for primitives antiques, Building 125.
In the fall, visit Dougherty Orchards, the oldest family owned apple orchard in Indiana. Located just east of Cambridge City, Dougherty Orchards started growing apples over years ago. While there, we dare you to eat just one of their homemade apple cider donuts. With kids? There's a petting zoo. For everyone, taste freshly made cider from apples grown on ancient tress.
