Centerville
Historic Byway
In 2011, Centerville was named by Bloomberg Business as the "best place in Indiana to raise your kids."
Lantz House
For over 175 years, the Lantz House, now a historic bed and breakfast, has been an integral part of the National Road as it widens and passes through the charming town of Centerville, Indiana. Much has changed since Conestoga wagons and travelers made their way along the 834 mile stretch of road that connected Cumberland, Maryland to Vandalia, Illinois and is now both a state and federal scenic byway.
Dirt and planks have given way to asphalt and concrete and travelers now zip along in cars. The Lantz House, named after wagon maker Peter Lantz, has changed some too.
After all, even those who love its bygone charm want electricity and running water, none of which were available when the home, with its double barrel arches and side porch, was built in 1823.
