Dearborn County
Southeastern Indiana isn’t typically known for its winter sports, but Perfect North Slopes located north of Rising Sun offers the opportunity for some family fun whether for skiing, snowboarding, sledding, or tubing.
Instruction is available and the slopes are perfect for beginners and young children. But heavy-duty skiers shouldn’t despair, there are also more difficult black diamond and double diamond slopes as well.
The ski slopes are located near the tiny hamlet of Guilford, so follow Route 1 into the city to see the 1879 Guilford Covered Bridge located at the Guilford Covered Bridge Park.
While in Dearborn County check out Hollywood Casino in historic Lawrenceburg.
Considered one of Greater Cincinnati’s (which is just across the river) top tourist attraction, the 78,000 square foot three deck riverboat features 2600 slots and 70 table games. The 200,000 foot onshore pavilion offers live entertainment on the weekend and a wide array of restaurants.
Visit the Lawrenceburg Speedway on Saturday nights for sprint car, modified and pure stock racing.
Travel south to Aurora, a pretty town nestled on the hills leading down to the Ohio River. Two historic homes – Hillforest and Veraestau – are now house museums and worth a visit.
