Rising Sun

The East Side of the River

Historic Log Cabin

Tucked away in a bend of the slow moving Ohio River, Rising Sun, Indiana, a small village of little more than 2000 people, attracts international attention not only because of its enchanting historic downtown and river walk but also because of a unique store, Harps on Main, the home of William Rees Instruments, one of the largest custom harp makers in the country.

"We sell 100 harpsicles a month" says Darlene Walton, showroom manager for Harps on Main, who came to this store when it first opened to buy a harp and liked the merchandise so much that she now works here full time. Walden now even has her own CD titled "The Harp and the Rising Sun"; which consists of her harp playing and several songs she composed as well as her arrangements of favorites such as Edelweiss.

Harpsicles are small, light harps that come in what the company terms as "flavors"; such as cherry (red), grape (purple), marshmallow (white) and bubble gum (pink). The colorful 26 string harps are designed for those who may want to play the harp but don't want to invest in an expensive full size harp and for those who need a traveling harp.
