Fulton & Miami Counties
Take time to wander the back roads of Fulton County where round barns are rare jewels of pastoral architecture still remain part of the bucolic landscape.
In ways it's a return to history for at one time Indiana had more than 225 round barns. Now less than a handful remain in the state, many of which can be found in Fulton County, designated the Round Barn Capitol of the World.
Because most of Fulton County's barns are tucked away on back roads, a good place to begin is by picking up a map at Fulton County Round Barn Museum, located, appropriately enough, in a white round barn built in 1925.
Also here is The Living History Village, a collection of historic buildings from the area that includes a 1920 era windmill, the 132 year old Rochester Train Depot, a jail dating back to1912 and a general store as well as the first frame home built north of the Wabash River dating back more than 175 years.
