Huntington
A river & canal run through it
Once a canal town and located on the Wabash River, Huntington is a delightful Victorian era Indiana town with a unique quirky charm. Foodwise, it’s totally Hoosier for those who love tenderloin sandwiches, very much an Indiana specialty. After indulging, grab a craft soda while looking at antiques, dine on the patio of a gastropub, visit the magnificent historic Sunken Gardens and the even further back into the past, the Historic Forks of the Wabash.
The magical looking Sunken Gardens on West Park Drive, created back in the 1920s from the remains of an old stone quarry, and now a wonderful place for contemplation. The extensive gardens, accessed by stairs leading down to what used to be the quarry, are filled with ponds, fountains and walkways connected by arching stone bridges and dotted with abundant plantings of flowers and shrubs. Above the quarry are walking paths through the woods in back.
