Muncie & Around
A Gathering Place
For centuries, the north bank of the White River, poised between two busy historic roadways, Wheeling and Grandville Pikes, has long been a gathering place.
The beauty of the spot was one reason why the Ball family, who had moved to Eastern Indiana to capitalize on the natural gas boom of the last 1800s that was perfect for making the glass jars that bore their name, chose it to build their magnificent mansions.
Minnetrista
Now a 40-acre tract of that land, named Minnetrista which means gathering place by the water, hosts a museum, a cultural center, extensive gardens, a popular farmers’ market and daily tours of the G.A. Ball House as well as a focus on history and art.
Minnetrista is just one of many reasons to visit Muncie, a bustling city, home of Ball State University, a major culinary player in the Indiana Foodways Alliance and within a short drive of both Indianapolis and Fort Wayne.
