T.C. Steele Historic Site
House of the Singing Winds
The delicate, softly colored landscapes of T.C. Steele reflect the land surrounding him visible from the abandoned farmhouse he bought in 1907 and turned into the home where he and his wife, Selma, would remain for the rest of their lives.
Getting to Nashville, Indiana in Brown County at the turn of the last century was an onerous chore, the roads were bad and the railroad had yet to come through.
But the Steeles were entranced by the views that stretched for 15 to 20 miles and even Selma, a successful business woman from Indianapolis agreed to spend time there.
