Mt Daisen 大山
Excellent hiking & snow sports
A stand-alone, 1729m dormant volcano, Daisen is known for it’s Daisen-ji temple and magnificent fall colours.
One of Japan’s Hyakumeizan, hikers come to climb to Daisen’s 1709m Misen peak - the true peak of Kengamine (1729m) is off-limits due to a dangerous knife-edge ridge.
In winter, skiers show up to the best slopes in western Japan.
Consider visiting Daisen as a day trip from Matsue. While public transport by train and bus works, the freedom of rental wheels will be appreciated.
