Air
Efficient, reliable & safe
Traveling by air can be cheaper and faster than the shinkansen (bullet train), especially if covering a long distance.
All major cities have an airport - Tōkyō and Osaka have two each! - so if your flying into Tōkyō or Osaka be aware of which airport you’re flying in or out of.
Tōkyō -
Narita International Airport is about 75min east of central Tōkyō by express train. Haneda Airport is much more convenient, about 30min by train or monorail from the city centre.
Osaka -
Kansai International Airport (KIX) is on a purpose-built man-made island south of the city in Osaka Bay. The older Itami Airport is north of the city centre.
