Femmes de Marrakech (SODEV)
Women's clothes co-op
Femmes de Marrakech is a women’s co-operative who sell clothes, accessories and cosmetics.
The firm was originally set up in 1987 by an American designer. She left for the US in 1991 and passed the company over to its employees. They now run it, making their own clothes, and buying in from around thirty home-based dressmakers, who are paid on a fair trade basis.
Femmes de Marrakech have dresses, caftans, blouses and skirts, in a range of colours and styles, both Moroccan and international. All the dresses are made by hand, mostly in cotton, but some in linen or a mix. They also have bags, belts and other accessories, and a separate part of the shop is now dedicated to cosmetics made from argan oil and other natural ingredients.
