The Palmery
Marrakesh's palm grove - النخيل
Marrakesh’s Palmery (palm grove) won't impress anyone who’s seen Morocco’s southern oases, but it does offer a bit of semi-rural tranquility within easy reach of town.
Most visitors take a ride by calèche (horse carriage) or on foot along the Circuit de la Palmeraie, a windy route from the Route de Fès (Fez road, route N8) to the Route de Casablanca (Casablanca road, route N9) or vice-versa.
Legend has it that the palm trees originally sprang from date pips spat out by the troops of Marrakesh’s Almoravid founders. In reality that's unlikely, as the dates are not eating-grade.
