L’Escale
Old-school Marrakesh bar, with food (l,d; $)
The Café-Bar de l’Escale is a typical Marrakesh drinking den. It's very male, not female-friendly, apart from the eating sections, and can get a bit rough as the evening wears on.
Founded in 1947, the L'Escale is well established, and it serves inexpensive food, cheap beer, and good bar snacks, particularly brochettes (skewer kebabs). The terrace out front (no alcohol) is fine for families, and there's a dining area at the back too (decent food, and cheap), but the bar area is pretty much all-male, and such women as drink here would not be considered respectable in Moroccan society.
The L'Escale certainly isn't a refined establishment, but if you want to check out an urban Moroccan drinking den, it's a good one to try.
