Metro

Mexico City Metro

The vast Metro system is one of the cheapest forms of transportation in the world and it’s surprisingly efficient to boot. Purchase a rechargeable smart card at station ticket booths.

Most visitors will be using Lines 1, 2 and 3 to reach downtown and other centrally located areas; in all, there are 12 lines. The cars can get uncomfortably crowded during rush hour from 7am to 10am and 5pm to 8pm.

The Metro goes out to the airport and the city’s four main bus terminals. Watch out for pickpockets, especially in packed cars. Tourist information booths and some stations provide free Metro maps.
