History
More than perhaps any other Canadian city Montreal has been on the fault-line between French and English then Francophone and Anglophone interests, yet strangely given all the past frictions, it’s also today one of the most comfortably bilingual cities in the world.
The cultures of both have shaped the city for centuries, but ironically, given the struggles for control on both Montreal today is a city more shaped by more recent immigrants with a huge range of backgrounds, including Africa, India, the Middle East and China that gives the place a more international vibe than anywhere else in Quebec and only a handful of other places in Canada.
If you've an interest in Montreals historic sights and museums, but sure to consider the Montreal Museums Pass. Most are included and may save you money if you intend to visit several.
