Montreal Museum of Fine Arts
Art through the ages & across the globe
Among its museums the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, or Musée des beaux-arts de Montréal, is the city's really big hitter.
A visit here can last pretty much all day – and that's just the permanent collection; temporary exhibits in sizeable halls ensure there's always something to come back for.
The museum's forte is Canadian and European fine art, though a trove of Asian, African and South American antiquities and treasures ensure truly global coverage.
One oddity to look out for is the Ben Weider collection, a local bodybuilding guru who had a fetish for all things Napoleonic.
