BIXI & Bike Hire

Quick & heavy bikesharing

bixi lineup in Montreal

Much copied by many cities across the globe, North America's first large-scale bike sharing system BIXI was set up in Montreal in 2009.

The Set-up

On offer are sturdy city bikes that can be picked up and dropped off at docks throughout central Montreal.

The system's a good one and involves thousands of bikes and hundreds of docking locations, so you'll rarely be short of a bike or a place to find one.

Their helpful app provides a live feed, making finding bikes and locations even easier.

Rates

The app or credit-card payment system at docking machines is user-friendly and involves generating codes to unlock up to four bikes on one card.

Rates are $1.50to unlock the bike, then 20¢/35¢ per minute for a regular/ebike.

This means that anywhere less than a 15-minute ride away then a BIXI is more economical than a single ticket ($3.75) on public transport.
