The Main

Blvd. St. Laurent

Schwartz's

Boulevard St. Laurent aka The Main is as important a Montreal street as any, and harbours another key restaurant and nightlife strip along the base of Mount Royal. One key to the area's success is its location as a bridge between the vibrant Latin Quarter and the central part of The Plateau neighbourhood.

Divisions

The Main began as a rough-and-ready boundary between Francophone areas (northeast) and Anglophone areas (southwest); a division that can still be traced today, though the road has become more important as an official divider of city addresses: streets ending in Ouest (west) lie southwest of St. Laurent Boulevard; those ending in Est (east), lie to the northeast of the street.
