RIDM

Montreal Int’l Documentary Festival (mid-Nov)

A great way to brighten up a dowdy part of the year, this superb eleven-day festival screens some 140 documentary films from dozens of countries but is also an excellent place to catch new offerings from Quebec.

The programming is thoughtful and attentive to current topics; be they climate change, immigration or simply giving a voice to the forgotten, overlooked or oppressed.

Directors & Events

It’s not just a passive film consumption either: directors grace many screenings, generating illuminating Q&A sessions. Meanwhile a number of events, DJ nights, discussion groups and workshops – help mostly in the Cinémathèque Québécoise – round off the programme.

Note films are either in French or subtitled in French, but many are also subtitled in English using a second set of subtitles.
