Cromwell Heritage Precinct
Old town Cromwell saved from the lake
When the Clyde dam, 25km downriver, was completed in 1990, Cromwell’s main street disappeared under what became Lake Dunstan. Some of the historic buildings, dating back to the gold rush of the 1860’s, were rebuilt on higher ground, creating the Cromwell Heritage Precinct.
These heritage buildings now house, cafes, shops and art galleries, right on the shores of the new Lake Dunstan.
A Farmer & Craft Market is held on Sundays, 9am to 1pm. October to April.
